Wonderfully engaging illustrations accompany the playful story of Young Oliver as he arrives home to discover that his house is infested, not with mice or bugs, but with birds. A wide variety of real-life birds; hummingbirds, roadrunners, puffins, and so many others, meet him at every turn all causing delightful chaos! Feeling overwhelmed, Oliver contacts Magic Mabel's Critter Moving Company for help. While waiting for Mabel, he tours his house encountering lovable birds eating his food, hiding in the artwork, swimming in the bathtub, singing around the record player, and more! Magic Mabel arrives, disregards her poles, nets, and ladders, choosing instead a plain, empty, cardboard box to round up all the birds. The box is magic, she says with a gleam in her eye. They catch all the birds and release them outdoors where they belong. Now the birds are playing in the grass and hovering around flowers. They are swimming on the lake and flying in the breeze. Everything is great. Or is it?
Peter Ross is the author and illustrator of the children's picture book Uh-Oh! We've Got Birds! Peter grew up in the quiet, little town of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and spent much of his childhood exploring nature, delighting in all the animals that dwell there. At an early age he started painting, taking inspiration from nature, and using his imagination to give each piece a life of its own. His art can be whimsical and childlike with creative undertones that tell a story. Each piece is like a seed that sprouts and blossoms differently for each viewer. For Peter, the next step seemed obvious, he wanted to write and illustrate entire children's picture books. That is what he has done, and he absolutely loves it. Peter lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota with his wife Leslie. They have two grown children, and lovely grandchildren.
"Oh my gosh Peter! It's wonderful! As usual, your illustrations are superb! I love Mabel! It's important that we have cultural diversity in today's books... I love your word choice and it will be fun to read aloud with the rhythm and rhyme you created in the text. Our STEM teacher has a unit on birds and this book would be such an asset! I'm sharing this with all my teacher friends... Dibs having you come to our school first as an author book reader." - Shannon Ostertag, First Grade teacher at Eagle Point Elementary
"Pete Ross' book Uh-Oh! We've Got Birds is a fun, clever and entertaining book. I know my students would enjoy imagining the havoc it would cause if their house was suddenly inhabited by animals! I would definitely share this book with my students. It would be fun to ask my students to create their own writing piece inspired by Uh-Oh! We've Got Birds." - Pondie Taylor, Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Saint Paul City School

As the grandmother of a four year old, I am always looking for that perfect picture book, where both the illustrations and the words are such that we both want to read it again and again. And "Uh Oh, We've Got Birds" is just that book-the concept so clever, the illustrations so fun and happy that it just gets better after each reading.
This is one you'll want to add to your pre-schooler's bookshelf.
