"Wake up, mermaid. Balance has been disrupted, and we must fight. Nature as we know it needs restoration. We need our water back."

Lake Superior is home to hundreds of shipwrecks . . . but only one mermaid. "H" doesn't know where she came from. She doesn't even know her full name. That hasn't stopped her from having a good time: she's spent the last few decades evading tourists, befriending local wildlife, and sharing spectral martinis with shipwrecked spirits. But there are whispers in the waters, rumors of a strange new threat killing whitefish by the hundreds. Out of the deep blue nowhere, H finds her North Shore paradise under attack. H must unravel her origins and harness long-dormant powers to lead Gitchi-Gami's residents (furred, finned, and ectoplasmic alike) in the fight to reclaim their waters. It will take unexpected allies, divine intervention, and pie . . . lots of pie.

Includes maps as well as numerous charming black-and-white illustrations by artist Jill Myer.

Aurora Lothbrok was born and raised in Northern Minnesota. She began her lightsaber training at Michigan Tech, where she studied biology, and continued onward to the University of Iowa to study pharmacy. Her love of the outdoors and penchant for adventure took her north to Alaska, where she currently resides on Dena'ina Elnena land. She's been told that she looks like she belongs on the set of The Big Bang Theory. Inside Aurora are two wolves—one is a hobbit who wants second breakfast and the other wants a real-life Jurassic Park on the island of Adak. Her favorite recreational activities include roller derby, photography, and sci-fi marathons with her husband and pets. In fact, it's a miracle this book was even written, as the dogs occupy important lap real estate and make using a computer quite difficult. Aurora loves bears and sparkles, and she swoons with affection for a strong female lead. Fermented tea may be her one true weakness.

"THE MERMAID OF LAKE SUPERIOR is an entertaining story which brings a mythological creature to life in an enchanting location. I have spent time on Lake Superior and at its surrounding communities, and it is obvious that the author performed extensive research into the history and culture." - Lawrence Rowe, author of THE FOUNDING FATHERS RETURN
