A comprehensive resource of cardiac anatomy and the surrounding structures for the cardiac electrophysiologist.

Explore the world of cardiac electrophysiology with this groundbreaking atlas of the heart crafted by a trio of internationally recognized cardiologists, researchers, and educators.

On this visual journey through the intricate landscape of the human heart, discover where structural and functional concepts converge to refine the practice of interventional cardiac electrophysiology. The authors seamlessly integrate a profound appreciation for the heart's artistic form and structure with imaging modalities that include fluoroscopy, intracardiac echo, 3D electroanatomic mapping, and original schematics by Dr. Wallace McAlpine, providing readers with an unparalleled and pragmatic viewpoint.

This highly detailed atlas follows the natural flow of blood with pauses at key clinical spotlights, where the importance of regional anatomy becomes evident to guide the safety and success of procedures. By understanding the nuances of regional anatomy, practitioners gain insight into innovative pathways to access even the most challenging regions within the heart.

Dr. Tung is an internationally recognized clinical cardiologist, cardiac electrophysiologist, researcher, and educator. He received combined training in electrophysiology at Beth Israel Deaconess-Harvard Medical School with Mark Josephson and at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine with Kalyanam Shivkumar. It was during his eight years at the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center that he was first exposed to the works of Wallace McAlpine and the planning of volumes of this Atlas collection. After serving as the director of the Center for Arrhythmia Care at the University of Chicago for over five years, he was recruited by the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. His current vision as the Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Banner—University Medicine Heart Institute in Phoenix is to create a premier cardiovascular destination in the Southwest United States through programs of distinction and innovation. He has published over 270 peer-reviewed articles and continues to serve as the section editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Clinical Electrophysiology and Heart Rhythm Journal. He is the founding executive producer of Heart Rhythm TV, which aims to globalize education and advance the missions of the Heart Rhythm Society.

Dr. Mori is a physician scientist who serves as the Director of the Specialized Program for Anatomy & Imaging at UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center. His field of specialization is cardiac anatomy and advanced clinical imaging. He has a long track record of publications and has published several books. In 2022, he co-authored Volume 1 of this project, Atlas of Cardiac Anatomy. He is an editor of Clinical Anatomy and section editor at the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Clinical Electrophysiology.

Dr. Shivkumar is a physician scientist serving as the inaugural director of the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center & EP Programs (since its establishment in 2002) and as the Director and Chief of UCLA's Cardiovascular and Interventional Programs. He leads a team that provides state-of-the-art clinical care and has developed several innovative therapies for the non-pharmacological management of cardiac arrhythmias and other cardiac diseases. He has a long track record of research publications and books. He has been elected as a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI), the Association of American Physicians (AAP), the Association of University Cardiologists (AUC), and is as an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London (FRCP). He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Clinical Electrophysiology.

"Atlas of Interventional Electrophysiology is a gift to every cardiologist and electrophysiologist interested in understanding structure and function of anatomy and (electro)physiology. The caliber of these illustrations and explanations is truly spectacular. I say with great certainty that Volume 2 will become the first book trainees, educators, allied professionals, and physicians at all levels will reach for when preparing for cases in the electrophysiology laboratory. This book is a masterpiece and must be on every electrophysiologist's bookshelf. It will assuredly become a classic and a go-to resource for all of us. Drs. Tung, Mori, and Shivkumar have provided us with a new volume in the Anatomical Basis of Cardiac Interventions series that earns its place next to Volume 1 because it advances and integrates what we do on a daily basis." — Kenneth A. Ellenbogen, MDAtlas of Interventional Electrophysiology

"We have been anxiously awaiting Volume 2 of the Anatomical Basis of Cardiac Interventions series after spending hours marveling at the organization and quality of the normal heart images and learning from the authors' expertise shared in Volume 1. This series takes off our blindfold and shines a bright light on the best path forward. The Atlas of Interventional Electrophysiology should be required reading and review for all those who desire to optimize success and avoid risks and collateral injury during interventional cardiac procedures. Review all the images carefully, read the accompanying text, and then, repeat the process! The exponential gains for the effort made in understanding the details and the nuance related to cardiac anatomy make every moment spent a gift. Drs. Tung, Mori, and Shivkumar deserve our congratulations and gratitude." — Francis Marchlinski, MDAtlas of Interventional Electrophysiology
