The stunning and meticoulous collection Boneyarn, written by poet David Mills, was published by The Ashland Poetry Press in 2021 and was the winner of the 2022 North American Poetry Award from the Poetry Society of Virginia. Mills' extensive research branches from the African Burial Ground located in the state of New York, associated with 18th-century slavery and the oldest and largest slave cemetery. In this collection, Mills passionately crafts poetry as a literary monument to the thousands of African American bodies buried.
David Mills is the author of The Sudden Country and The Dream Detective. He has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, The American Antiquarian Society, The Queens Council on the Arts and Breadloaf. He has recorded his poetry for ESPN and RCA Records and lived in Langston Hughes' landmark Harlem home.
