No matter what you think, you have never read a book quite like this.
A heartwarming and humorous story about the life of a remarkably gifted young man with a good heart named William Olaf Rupert. Undeniably immature yet complex and centered, Willy describes for us the trauma and beauty of his own birth, his doctor and nurses from the hospital, and his family and friends from nursery, day care, and school.
With juvenile wit and a perspective on childhood only a grown-up could bring, Willy's story—as told to Steve Snelling—unfolds across the years with warmth and plenty of mischief.
Steve Snelling was born in 1959 and raised (loose term) in a middle-class neighborhood in the small, rural farming community of Litchfield, Minnesota. His father Doug coached hockey and had a great sense of humor. His mother Norma taught music and English at the local school. Norma also directed the choir at the local Lutheran Church for many years and was enormously proud of her Norwegian heritage, which she mentioned often. Steve has two older sisters: Julia, who is an exceptionally talented author and educator, and Mary, who is an extraordinarily talented artist and educator.
After sliding through high school, Steve attended Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, barely graduating with a degree in English in 1982. While there, Steve played music and had extra fun with his friends, almost every night. Steve then got serious, kind of, and attended William Mitchell College of Law, now Mitchell-Hamline School of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1988. Steve has been practicing law since then and continues his practice today.
In 1989, Steve married his best friend Sue, and they have been happily married forever. Sue has been teaching special education for many years and has the God-given ability to love, connect with, and teach her students in a way few others can. Steve and Sue have one son, Jordan, who lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota. They love Jordan with all their heart, and he says that he does too.
Steve and Sue reside now in Stillwater, Minnesota, go to their cabin in Wisconsin, which is a nearby state, and see good son Jordan for breakfast every Tuesday morning, which makes it their favorite day of the week.
