This memoir about self discovery chronicles one man's journey to find his true community of origin. As he explores his African heritage and personal history, he gains a new perspective on social justice, global connection, and identity formation.

"Omowale is not just a memoir—it's a treatise, a personal testimony that beckons readers to our common identity as part of the human family."

—Charles Sith, pastor and investor

In 2022, in the heart of Abuja, Nigeria, at a dinner attended by Nigerian dignitaries, ambassadors, and businesspeople, Dr. Christopher Brooks is rechristened: Adamu Omowale Chibozor. Translating to "the child has come home," the Yoruba name "Omowale" reinvigorates Dr. Brooks in his purpose and solidifies his connection to the continent where his ancestors lived, loved, and worshiped.

With his new name guiding his path, he sets out on a journey to open new doors for his spiritual and professional communities. He dreams of a life where justice, freedom, and economic parity are all possible.

Dr. Brooks has made a career by breaking the cycle of generational poverty. He co-founded Brown Venture Group, the first Black-owned venture capital firm in Minnesota. Now, his vision extends even farther—calling for the development of an interdependent economic framework, rooted in Africa and reaching the entire Black global diaspora.

Readers of this self discovery book can look forward to . . .

  • Exploring a first-hand account of identity formation,
  • Learning a fresh perspective on race and ethnicity,
  • Refreshing their hopes for a truly unified world, and
  • Gaining the courage and confidence to dig deep and find their true selves.

A powerful companion gift to an Ancestry DNA kit, Omowale places identity at the intersection of social justice and biblical justice, giving those seeking a higher purpose a pathway to get there.

Dr. Chris Brooks has developed a reputation as a trusted, results-oriented leader. He is an investor, executive, educator, and advisor with more than 25 years of demonstrated success across multiple sectors and industries.

His chief passion is the intersection of race, faith, and economics—his research and work bring solutions for individuals, families, and communities caught in the vicious cycle of generational poverty. He is a founding partner of Brown Venture Group, the first Black-owned venture capital firm in the state of Minnesota.

He is a proud member of the Nigerian diaspora, an identity he explores in his writing and first book, Omawale: One Man's Journey for Justice.

"Omowale is not just a memoir—it's a treatise, a personal testimony that beckons readers to our common identity as part of the human family." -—Ambassador Charles Stith, Diplomat, Pastor and investor

"I had the privilege to witness from his car's backseat as Dad kept tabs on the lives of unhoused people in our metro; he remembered the names of their children, secured the sleepingbag they requested, and marked shelter locations in his Google Maps for follow-up visits. Dr. Brooks has served his entire life to ensure that human life flourishes in all contexts and that the oppressive systems that kneel on the necks of God's Image Bearers are dismantled one sleeping bag at a time."  —Selah Brooks Powell, Educator
