Did you know the human brain is amazing? It is in charge of your entire body! But what happens when the brain gets injured?

"A beautiful telling of what a brain injury is, why it matters, and what you can do to help those affected." —Bo Tunberg, TBI survivor

In the United States alone, there is an estimated 2.8 million traumatic brain injuries that occur every year.

Inspired by the author's journey of supporting a loved one who sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI), this stunningly illustrated children's book about traumatic brain injuries is both an educational and empowering.

Through a heartfelt narrative, readers will embark on a journey to discover:

  • an educational resource for children and their families about this common invisible injury,
  • support and understanding when discussing the challenges of going through a traumatic brain injury,
  • what the TBI rehabilitation process looks like and who is involved,
  • kid-friendly explanations of the brain and all it's incredible functions, and
  • a message of hope and resilience

"Katianne Olson does a wonderful job explaining what a TBI is, associated symptoms, parts of the brain, and the aspects of recovery, including the therapists involved. My personal favorite from this book is how she defines resilience and ways that even the youngest readers can be resilient through a challenging time."
Victoria Galarnyk MS, CCC-SLP senior speech-language pathologist

"As the parent of a child who suffered a TBI, I know this book can support conversations with people of all ages. I truly believe this book will give my daughter the words to answer the question she is always asked: 'What happened?'"
Krissy Danburg, mother of a child with a TBI and yoga studio owner

Katianne Olson lives in the Chicago suburbs with her family. Over the course of her career as a special education teacher, her passion is advocating for inclusion and acceptance of those of all minds and abilities. Fun fact about the author: As a National Park lover, her bucket list is to visit all the National Parks in her lifetime!

"What a beautiful tool. The Resilient Brain takes an extremely complicated and delicate medical experience and transforms it into a beautiful book that many will benefit from. As the parent of a child who suffered a TBI, I know this book can support conversations with people of all ages. I will share this book with my children, my daughter's school, my family, my community, my friends, and so many others! I truly believe this book will give my daughter the words to answer the question she is always asked: 'What happened?' Resiliency is such a special word with applications to all who are touched by TBI." —Krissy Danburg, mother of a child with a TBI and yoga studio owner

"A beautiful telling of what a brain injury is, why it matters, and what you can do to help those affected. It is so helpful to have an awareness of the effect of these 'invisible injuries.' I'm thankful for Katianne Olson's conviction—and her story."  —Bo Tunberg, TBI survivor

"This is a must-read for loved ones of those who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Read this book and learn from someone who actually lives it. Katianne Olson does a wonderful job explaining what a TBI is, associated symptoms, parts of the brain, and the aspects of recovery, including the therapists involved. My personal favorite from this book is how she defines resilience and ways that even the youngest readers can be resilient through a challenging time."  —Victoria Galarnyk MS, CCC-SLP senior speech-language pathologist

"A fantastic resource for those suffering from TBI. As a practitioner working with these patients every day, one of the most common struggles experienced is the communication of what they are feeling and experiencing. Katianne Olson has captured that experience and made it easy to understand for both children and adults alike–not an easy task! She has done the impossible: threading the needle of explaining a complex topic in a simple and sensory-friendly way. The unfortunate cruelty of a TBI  injury is that your symptoms are often invisible to others, while also inhibiting your ability to express your internal experiences verbally. This can be a very isolating experience. This book will open the eyes of many who have trouble conveying or understanding the journey of those who wrestle with TBI, while providing that much-needed element of hope in that your brain is resilient, it can recover!"  —Dr. Joseph Coppus  DC, CFMP, DACNB, owner and lead clinician of Delta Neuro Health and host of The Neuro Health Broadcast
